PALS is not about politics, but about grassroots projects that establish new-era farmers that are sustainable. As part of the practical process PALS uses a four-stage approach of initiation, planning, motivation/enabling and only then, implementation.

One example of the implementation of the PALS framework with smallholder/community-based producers is the Nduli pig farming project outside Ceres, where PALS has partnered with a group of 29 small-scale pig farmers to develop their informal pig farming project to a more commercial and sustainable enterprise.
