PALS — Partners in Agri Land Solutions

PALS is the acronym for Partners in Agri Land Solutions, a private land reform and development initiative.

Partners in Agri Land Solutions proactively solve South Africa’s land reform challenges in a practical, merit-based and honest manner that supports economic growth, job creation, food security, custodianship and social harmony.

The key objective is to create an enabling environment to implement innovative land reform and inclusive agricultural growth that supports social harmony. The PALS objectives are in line with the Constitution and the National Development Plan.

The stated goals of the initiative, which still endure, include the establishment of successful black farmers (as owners of the land), to involve the whole community in an inclusive process, to extend the initiative to other areas and agricultural related industries, to establish the PALS centre as “one-stop-shop” (local land desk) and to focus on mentorship and training programmes.

PALS, the future of farming

The success of a potjie is its three legs, making it stable, irrespective of how rough or uneven the surface that it has to stand on is.

There is a close relation – in more ways than one – between the potjie and PALS. Firstly the stability of three pillars. The commercial farmer, the new-era farmer and the farming company. Three legs providing the stability to grow together.

Secondly both are instruments to feed this nation. Through the PALS process agriculture is growing, supplying foodstuff that can fill numerous potjies. Potjies that can fill numerous tummies.
